When I made a new friend at run club last week, we bonded over where we were from and went to undergrad. Turns out her hometown is where my cousin’s family grew up. When trying to figure out if they knew each other, I said my cousin was the youngest in her family and was my age, about to be 36. My new friend had no idea and said she thought I was in my mid-20s, which explained why they didn’t know each other!
Music to my ears.
If you know me, you know I rarely wear makeup unless it’s a special occasion—but I love my skincare.
In late December 2024, I was invited to visit The Brightwood’s newest space on the UES to experience their Mini Diamond Glow Facial.
Co-founded by licensed aesthetician Devon Nagelberg (co-founder of JECT) and Paige Walker, The Brightwood is a boutique facial aesthetics practice with two locations in New Jersey—and now, a new space in Manhattan.
I accepted an appointment for a few days before Christmas and after a week of non-stop holiday parties to refresh my skin heading into the New Year. I took the train from Astoria and walked from 59th/Lex to 65th/Lex.

The Brightwood is nestled among brownstones and has a luxurious yet welcoming feel as you arrive. Upon walking in, there's a waiting area with seating, a check-in desk, and a chest full of skincare to purchase. After providing my name to the person, I waited to be called to meet with the practitioner for my consult and Mini Diamond Glow Facial.

Once I was brought into the treatment room, my practitioner came in to chat about my current skin concerns, lifestyle, and skincare habits—including sun exposure, retinol use, and more. Naturally, given The Brightwood’s focus, she did try to engage in a botox conversation. Though I appreciated that after I expressed that I wasn’t interested, she didn’t push the topic.
And to the Botox point—if people I’ve just met still think I’m in my mid-20s, I’m in no rush to explore injectables.
Once the consult was completed, it was time for my Mini Diamond Glow Facial. Per The Brightwood's website, this facial is a "clinically-proven treatment from the makers of Botox exfoliates, extracts and infuses for the ultimate cleanse and glow. This quick and effective monthly service delivers visible results immediately and over time."
In other words, the Mini Diamond Glow Facial is a 3-in-1 treatment that exfoliates dead skin cells, deep cleanses pores, and infuses serums to increase hydration. It may also help address various skin concerns, including acne, dryness, excess oil, and more.

My practitioner tilted the chair back and began the process, sweeping my face with the diamond-tipped wand. She was gentle and kindly worked around my nose ring (can't say the same for the woman at Willowbrook, where I go each May for my birthday).
As she was working, I could just feel the dirt and grime being lifted from my skin. There were so many different sensations - it was definitely satisfying!

Once the 20-minute treatment was complete, my practitioner showed me everything that had been extracted from my skin. What I found wild was that I had showered and washed my face and didn't use any product before arriving, and there was still so much buildup to be removed!

Afterwards, we continued the consult, where she shared that I may have dryer skin and made suggestions for retinol and vitamin C usage.

Overall, I genuinely enjoyed my experience at The Brightwood and my Mini Diamond Glow Facial. I felt like my skin was smoother, glowing, and healthier.
The Mini Diamond Glow Facial Membership is $125/mo and includes a monthly facial, exclusive Botox offers and Brightwood perks, discounts on upgrades, and three guest passes per year.
